Flaming Iguanas

I'm not too much into fiction. Theory & poetry, more or less, comprise my core reading list. But this past week, I read Flaming Iguanas by Erika Lopez. This was a good thing. I don't laugh out loud in public too much. Laughing out loud in private & a chuckle here & there in public, more or less, comprise my laugh-routine. But this past week, I read Flaming Iguanas by Erika Lopez. This was a good thing because, yes, I laughed out loud in public on many occasions. You should read the book. While the text does tackle some interesting (i.e. "serious") issues, Lopez brings a healthy dose of levity to the writing (& illustrations). This has the effect of transforming what could be self-importance into a brilliant work. & it even has rim jobs:

"I was seriously tempted to hang out some more and get to know this guy, but then he made the mistake of going into graphic detail about a shit he took near a tractor one night while holding onto the horse's reins and clutching a big wad of toilet paper.

I thought about how hard it is to get really, really clean on the road, and how he'd probably end up wanting me to rim him or something. When you're as oral as I am, you have big hips and think of things like that" (235-6).

Great.
