Mix-Tape Recovery & Give-Away Project

This is the first installment of the "Mix-Tape Recovery & Give-Away Project." The idea behind the project is to find pre-recorded music on cassette tape, alter the artifact so that it can be over-dubbed, then record different music onto the tape. Afterwards, I will mail out the new mix to anyone who a) has a functioning tape player & b) will actually listen to the music. That being said, there are a few guidelines: 1) the first person to email me at joshua_ware@hotmail.com with a valid mailing address will get the tape & 2) the person must not have received the previous mix (obviously this does not pertain to the first volume), as well as 3) adhering to the aforementioned stipulations of a) & b). Sorry, I don't do CD-Rs. Now, on with the show:

MTRGAP #1: Beginngs & Endings. Volume 1.A contains the lead track to seven different LPs. This isn't a "The Best" selection, just seven introductory cuts that I enjoy. Volume 1.B contains the concluding track to seven different LPs. As with previous side, this isn't a "The Best" selection, just solid closers. A few constraints were put in place, such as no repeats on artists, & for the most part, I alternated between male & female singers. Original cassette artwork & track listing below.

1.A: Beginnings
"i am an excellent steel horse," Rock Plaza Central
"alone/alive," Shapes & Sizes
"Poison Cup," M. Ward
"Into the Open," Heartless Bastards
"Stereo," Pavement
"Eyes are at the Billions," Cortney Tidwell
"submarine #3," Starlight Mints

1.B: Endings
"Up & Gone," Cat Power
"Bad Days," The Flaming Lips
"The Needle Has Landed," Neko Case
"It's All Over Now, Baby Blue," Bob Dylan
"a distorted reality is now a necessity to be free," Elliot Smith
"Derek," Animal Collective
"roi (reprise)," The Breeders
